Our process
From the first call to the first swim.
Building a pool can feel like a big undertaking, but it doesn’t have to be. At Dupont Pools, we guide you through every step, from that first phone call to the day you dive in and support you through pool ownership. Here’s what the journey looks like.
Step 1
Contact us
Reach out to us via our website enquiry form, phone, text or email. We respond within 24 hours of receiving your enquiry.

Step 2
The conversation
During our first conversation whether that’s on the phone or over email we’ll ask about your pool plans, answer your questions, and talk through what’s involved. From there, we’ll arrange a time to visit your property in person, or if you’re still in the design or building stage, we can meet over Zoom instead.
We’ll also talk about who else is involved in your project. Living and working in Wānaka, an area with a lot of development underway, we regularly work alongside architects, landscapers and builders to bring a project together. We like to understand who is involved and the scope of work, not just the pool.

Step 3
The site visit
This is where we learn about you and your property. We’ll sit down with you to understand what matters most for your family, then walk the site together to assess it properly for access, power, water, and anything else that affects the build. If you’re not sure of the answers, that’s fine; that’s what we’re here for.
Every family and every property is different, so we tailor our advice to you. Together, we’ll mark out your pool and pool space, and start shaping the design around how you’ll actually use it.

Step 4
Planning
This is where your ideas become a concept plan. We position your pool thoughtfully within your landscape. We can handle the consent process if you request us to do so, or we can work with your builder, architect or landscaper to ensure they have the right documentation for planning and the consent. It’s generally at this stage that we begin coordinating the install, so we’re ready to hit the ground running once approvals are through.

Step 5
Installation
Once council approval comes through, we get to work. Tom oversees the process alongside our install team, with the bulk of the build completed over roughly two weeks.
Here’s what that looks like on-site:
- We set out the pool, pool surrounds and pump shed, then excavate the site and lay a free-draining base for the pool to sit on.
- The exciting part: your pool arrives on-site, usually lifted into place by Hiab or crane. This is the moment it all becomes real.
- We check the height and level of the pool, and drill for the eyeballs, lights and hydrostatic valve.
- The pool is gradually filled with water while we backfill around it with a sand-and-cement mix at the same time. This keeps everything supported and holds its shape.
- Pipework and cabling are run back to the pump shed.
- We hang reinforcing steel, box the perimeter, and pour the concrete bond beam, stripping the boxing two days later. The bond beam then cures for around two weeks before landscaping around the pool begins.

Step 6
Landscaping
This is where the finishing touches around the pool take shape. If you’re engaging your own landscapers or builders, or handling it yourself, we’ll give you everything you need to get started. If Dupont Pools is finishing the pool space, we’ll carry on as agreed. If you’ve chosen an in-ground cover box or slatted auto cover, this is also when we install it.

Step 7
Cleaning
Once all the work around the pool is complete, we give it a final clean and test all the equipment to make sure everything’s running as it should.

Step 8
Handover & filtration training
At this stage, we bring in our handover specialist, an expert in water chemistry and pool equipment operation. They’ll walk you through everything you need to know to keep your pool healthy and running smoothly, and leave you with a reference guide to come back to any time. After this, you’re ready to look after your own Dupont Pool with confidence.
If you don’t live in Central Otago full-time and need someone to look after your pool while you’re away, we can put you in touch with a trusted pool and spa valet service.
Step 9
Pool party
Your pool is complete, and ready for you, your family and your friends to enjoy for years to come.
Dupont Pools is only ever a phone call, email or text away if you ever have questions down the track. Our local Central Otago pool supply shops and valet services also know our equipment well and are a great resource whenever you need them.
